Drexel University was selected as a test campus for a pilot safety program, federal officials announced yesterday.
Janet Napolitano, U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security, spoke at the college yesterday confirming the West Philly campus as one of seven universities chosen to participate in the Campus Resilience Pilot Program.
The program intends to help colleges develop innovative ideas and approaches to handling disasters.
The goal, Napolitano said, is for the select colleges and universities to help "develop best practices, resources and tools needed to assist campus communities nationwide in their efforts to reduce gun violence on campuses and bolster resilience and emergency planning processes for all types of hazards.”
“This is an important step in our work with the academic community to help campuses prepare for, protect against, respond to, recover from and mitigate crisis and emergency situations,” Napolitano said.
