Drugs, cash found inside Bronx day care center

Police have arrested a Bronx couple accused of running a large drug operation out of a Bronx day care center.

Gregorio Hanley, 41, and his wife Johanna Vasquez, 31, used Fun World Childcare located at 1499 Rosedale Ave. as a front for drug trafficking, officials said.

Cops seized more than $80,000 in narcotics during searches of the day care center and a second stash location, including at least a kilogram of cocaine, 150 grams of crack cocaine and more than 1,000 oxycodone pills.

The day care center, which was licensed, was housed in a three-story residential building where the couple and their two young sons also lived.

In the basement of the house, approximately 300 grams of cocaine packed inside a child’s insulated lunch bag was found in a refrigerator, officials said.

Agents and officers also found $20,000 inside a kitchen cabinet.

“This was a significant drug trafficking operation as evidenced by nearly $300,000 in drugs and cash seized, along with a loaded gun for protection against rivals,” special narcotics prosecutor Bridget Brennan said. “The scope of the trafficking operation makes it all the more horrifying that it used as cover a fully operational day care center.”

The couple faces charges of criminal selling and possession of a controlled substance and endangering the welfare of a child.

A third individual, 32-year-old William Ferrer, was also charged with two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance. Cops observed Hanley handing Ferrer a plastic bag outside the day care center on Wednesday night and busted Ferrer with 150 grams of cocaine.
