Dunkin’ Donuts to open 150 coffee shops in California

Soon The Golden State will be running on Dunkin’.

Dunkin’ Donuts, which is based about 20 miles south of Boston, announced yesterday that it plans to open 150 stores in Southern California — and eventually as many as 1,000 statewide by 2015.

“Since the day I joined Dunkin’ Brands, one of the questions I’ve been asked most is, ‘When will Dunkin’ Donuts open in California?'” said Dunkin’ Donuts President Nigel Travis in a statement on the company’s website.

Travis goes on to say that he gets requests to open Dunkin’ Donuts in California “almost every day” from fans on the West Coast and throughout the country. Big-name celebrities have even made pleas on national TV for Dunkin’ to open in Hollywood, he said.

“And so, today is an extremely happy and momentous day for our brand, as I have the privilege of making the long-awaited announcement that Dunkin’ Donuts will in fact be expanding into Southern California,” said Travis.

“We are now actively seeking franchisees to open Dunkin’ Donuts restaurants in Los Angeles, Riverside, San Diego, San Bernadino, Ventura and Orange Counties in California. We expect the first new Dunkin’ Donuts restaurants in California to open in 2015.”

Last year the company opened 291 new locations across the nation, and this year it plans to open up to 360 more.
