Earth Day celebrates birthday

Times Square will be transformed into a green playground next week as it hosts a massive Earth Day party on April 22.

The event, which will mark the 40th anniversary of Earth Day, will run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Musical performers, celebrities, environmental activists and Mayor Michael Bloomberg will all take the stage as part of the three-hour show.

There will also be informational booths set up around Times Square from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Starting on April 19, there will be a weeklong EarthFair at Grand Central Terminal and a two-day festival on Vanderbilt Avenue starting Friday, April 23.
