Investigators are trying to determine the cause of a Burholme house fire overnight that left an elderly couple in critical condition.
The fast-moving fire broke out about 3 a.m. on the 7400 block of Montour Street, 6ABC Action News reports.
Philadelphia firefighters arrived to find heavy flames showing on the first floor and smoke on the second floor of the twin home. They were able to rescue the husband and wife, who were unconscious.
The victims are both being treated at Temple University Hospital.
The home was equipped with smoke detectors, according to the report, but they were not functioning.
A neighboring home sustained minor damage in the fire.
