An elderly man and a dirt bike rider were injured Sunday night in the Bronx when a cop car bumped the dirt bike, causing it to strike the pedestrian.
A 20-year-old man was driving the dirt bike about 5:30 p.m. when a police cruiser bumped it, forcing it to flip and hit a 77-year-old man who was waiting to cross the street at Boston Road near Thwaites Place in Pelham Gardens, witnesses told the New York Post. The 20-year-old was part of a larger group of riders on bikes and four-wheelers, witnesses said.
Police have contradicted the witnesses' accounts, saying there was no contact between the cop car and the bike. The cruiser was making a U-turn when the dirt bike spun out of control as the driver tried to flee, cops told the Post.
Both the pedestrian and the dirt-bike rider were recovering at Jacobi Medical Center.
