Elderly woman attacked in attempted robbery

A 68-year-old woman was attacked by a man who tried to rob her inside an elevator in an Upper West Side building Monday.

The suspect followed the victim inside 840 Columbus Ave. shortly before 8 a.m. Once they were inside the elevator, the man attempted to grab the woman’s purse and then punched her in the face, cops said. He fled without any property. The woman was treated at St. Luke’s Hospital.

The suspect is described as a black male in his early 20s, approximately 5-foot-7 with a slim build. He was last seen wearing a blue-and-white hooded Polo jacket with the number 3 on the right shoulder. He was also wearing an orange billed baseball cap and white sneakers.
