An elderly woman was killed and her husband injured in a home invasion in Northeast Philadelphia early Monday.

Philadelphia police found the couple injured after responding to their home on the 6700 block of Castor Avenue in the Oxford Circle neighborhood about 2:50 a.m. on a report of a burglary.

The 74-year-old woman had sustained injuries to her head. She was pronounced dead at Aria Health-Torresdale Hospital a short time later.

The male victim, 74, was in stable condition with injuries to his neck and head.

Police had one man in custody for questioning in connection with the investigation into the burglary and attack Monday morning.

The victims' identities are not yet being released.
