A Department of Environmental Protection employee was shot dead at an upstate office Monday morning, and another employee is in custody, according to the Kingston Police Department.
The shooting occurred at about 6:46 a.m. inside 71 Smith Ave., Police Chief Egidio Tinti said.
Cops found Aron J. Thomas, 33, dead as a result of one gunshot wound.
A person of interest was taken into custody at the scene, and a handgun was also recovered at the scene, Tinti said.
Both Thomas and the person of interest worked in the same area of the building, according to a press release.
Kingston is a city in Ulster County and is located approximately 90 miles from New York City.
