Everett crossing guard hit by MWRA truck

A elderly woman working as a crossing guard was hit by a man driving an Massachusetts Water Resources Authority truck this morning.

Maria Stewart, 71, of Everett, was working at Ferry and Cherry streets when she was hit, police said. She was rushed to Massachusetts General Hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the MWRA pick-up truck was a 67-year-old man from Dorchester. He was taken to a local hospital for observation.

Everett and state police are investigating the crash.

There were no charges filed as of this morning and it was not immediately clear what caused the crash.
