FDNY accused of underreporting response time

Officials with the firefighter union on Wednesday accused the FDNY of fudging its emergency response time numbers.

The union analyzed response time data from the last two weeks and found that the FDNY excluded the amount of time it takes a caller to reach an operator through the city’s beleaguered 911 call system.

“They’re not counting the time a 911 caller spends with the 911 operator,” union head Steve Cassidy told the Daily News. “The time is significant — over a minute.”

Both the FDNY and the NYPD are understaffed and have been known to rely on forced overtime to handle their call volume, which is up 20% from 2009.
