It took 50 Brentwood firefighters 75 minutes to contain a raging house fire on Rugby Street early yesterday morning.

It took 50 Brentwood firefighters 75 minutes to contain a raging house fire on Rugby Street early yesterday morning.

Fire officials received the call at 12:37 a.m. and the house’s owners, Kathleen and John Calcano, along with three others were able to escape the burning home before firefighters and police arrived.

A chinchilla, two rabbits and one very lucky Yorkshire terrier also escaped the blaze unharmed. The Suffolk County police arson squad is investigating the fire.
