A bouncer at a bar near North Station was stabbed multiple times while trying to break up a large fight early Saturday.

A Boston police officer working a detail outside The Greatest Bar on Friend Street was alerted to a stabbing inside just after 1 a.m. Saturday, police said.

While outside the front door to the popular bar, staff told the officer that there was a large fight on the third floor. Also outside was a bouncer sitting inside a taxi. The staff member was suffering from multiple stab wounds, police said. He told police he was attempting to break up a fight when someone jumped on his back and began to stab him.

Another employee told police that he was trying to get upstairs to assist the staff member in breaking up the fight when he was confronted by several men running down the stairs. The employee tried to stop them, but one of the men pulled out a knife and threatened the employee.

Police also spoke to another victim who was at a hospital after having a bottle broken over his head during the fight.

The bouncer that was stabbed was taken to a hospital for treatment, police said.

Police were still searching for the suspects.

Detectives are investigating. Anyone with information can call 617-343-4248.
