Some Albany lawmakers earn a large paycheck from part-time jobs with law firms, according to financial disclosure filings released by the state on Wednesday.
Under a new ethics law passed in 2011, legislators are required to reveal their outside income.
Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver earned between $350,000 to $400,000 for his work at personal injury law firm Weitz & Luxenburg, according to the filings.
Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos works for Long Island law firm Ruskin Moscou Faltischek. He was paid between $150,000 and $250,000 in 2012, the filings show.
State Senator Jeffrey Klein earned between $57,000 and $106,000 from legal work as well as a teaching job. He is a partner at a Bronx law firm and lecturer at Mercy College.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo said the new filings offer voters “unprecedented disclosure” about elected officials.
The filings are available online at the Joint Commission of Public Ethics’ website.
