Seven people — including five children — have been transported to area hospitals after an early morning collision between a school bus and a vehicle that allegedly ran a stop sign, police said today.
Around 8:15 a.m., a white Mercury passenger car hit a school bus transporting 18 children at the intersection of 20th and Dauphin streets, authorities reported. The driver of the car fled on foot after the collision while the front-seat passenger was trapped and had to be extricated. The passenger is in stable condition at Temple University Hospital.
The driver of the bus was also taken to Temple University Hospital while five of the children, ranging in age from 6 to 12, were in stable condition this afternoon at St. Christopher's Hospital. Police are investigating the collision.
