For some, gay unions not urgent

City clerks handed out 659 marriage licenses, and municipal judges married 484 couples on Sunday, but not all gay and lesbian couples in the city clamored to be wed on July 24.

Metro talked to couples who said they feel no rush to run down the aisle just because gay marriage is now legal. Some cited cost, while others said they need more time to plan. And for others, the prospect of waiting in line is simply not particularly romantic.

“A wedding is something that should be planned and not rushed into,” said Park Slope writer Frank Anthony Polito, 41, who is engaged to Craig Bentley, an actor. “[On?Sunday you’re not] the only one that’s having your special day. For 20 years, we’ve been wanting to get married; and now that we can, I feel like we need to plan it.”
