Former MTA head Joe Lhota confirms he will run for mayor

He’s officially in the running.

Former MTA chair Joe Lhota, who stepped down from the transit agency in December amid rumors of running for mayor, said today he is in fact running for the city’s top job.

He told aNew York Building Congress audience that he left the MTA to run for mayor.

Lhota was widely praised for getting the subways running after Hurricane Sandy, but he will face an ever-growing list of competitors: Council Speaker Christine Quinn, Public Advocate Bill de Blasio and Comptroller John Liu are also vying for the job.
