Former Mayor David Dinkins and Rep. Charles Rangel endorsed on Monday former Comptroller Bill Thompson in New York’s mayoral race.
Dinkins and Rangel said at a news conference in Harlem that they support Thompson’s stance on stop-and-frisk, The Daily News reports. Thompson has said he believes stop-and-frisk can be effective as long as the tactic is not abused by police officers.
Dinkins and Rangel said they believe the tactic can effectively get weapons off the street, as long as it is used when there is suspicion of wrongdoing.
Their position puts them at odds with the Rev. Al Sharpton, who believes stop-and-frisk should never be used, the News reports.
