A Drexel Hill man and former offensive lineman at Penn State was arrested multiple times in Atlantic City on Monday and Tuesday--the final arrest coming after he allegedly caused the evacuation of the Jersey Shore resort town's Public Safety Building.
Atlantic City police allege Thomas McHugh, 29, sprayed a fire extinguisher at several people after he found himself in a restricted area of the Public Safety Building at around 8:10 a.m. Tuesday, the Press of Atlantic City reports.
McHugh allegedly sprayed three police officers in the face as they attempted to detain the Drexel Hill man, who had been released from a holding cell in the building at around 8 a.m. following a theft and disorderly conduct arrest Monday night. Several others working in the area were impacted by the powder that filled the building.
A total of 16 people, including McHugh, were hospitalized following the incident.
McHugh, who now faces three charges of assault on police and a host of other charges in connection with the incident, played at Penn State until he was dismissed from the team in October 2003 for legal issues.
