The brother of former Massachusetts Sen. Scott Brown was arrested in Connecticut after commandeering a boat and walking around town dressed as a police officer.
Bruce W. Browne, 47, of Wolcott, Conn., was seen walking with a gun on the streets of Old Lyme while impersonating a cop, WFSB reports. Browne was driving a blue Crown Victoria with what appeared to be a disc and antennas mounted on the trunk along with “hide-away” lights.
Inside the car in plain view, officers say they found three loaded 9 mm handguns, a black nylon duty belt with two sets of handcuffs, a police baton, 12 fully loaded magazines with a total of 101 hollow point and 102 ball 9 mm bullets, WBZ reports. He allegedly had a black tactical bulletproof vest with “POLICE” embroidered on the front and back with a silver metal TSA badge attached, they added.
Earlier in the day, he had commandeered a boat by identifying himself as a “Police/Coast Guard” official.
Wolcott Police Chief Edward Stephens confirmed to WFSB on Friday morning that Browne is the brother of former Sen. Brown, even though he spells his name differently.
He was released on $50,000 bail and is due back in court later this month.
