This weekend, police charged a 15-year-old male with the Nov. 11 attack on a 29-year-old man outside a pizza parlor in Fox Chase, police said.
The boy was arrested for jumping and punching the man as he walked into a pizza shop on the 7900 block of Verree Road.
The teen apparently asked the man for a cigarette, and as he pulled one out, he was jumped by about four others including the teenager. The man suffered minor injuries.
Police spokeswoman Officer Jillian Russell said she does not believe it was a "Knockout game" style ambush, but police were looking into it.
Lt. John Stanford said the motive for initiators of the "knockout game. ... attempt to strictly knock the person out with one punch and they are doing it as they say "just for the laughs", when this is the furthest thing from a joke or laughing matter," he said. "Some of them take items from a victim which would then make it a robbery and other just knock the victims out and run. Typically the suspects and offenders have been teens and young adult.
"This is not a new phenomenon," he added. "Its just that the name changes from time to time."
