VIDEO: Philly group masterminded Dannon’s ‘Full House’ reunion Super Bowl ad

A Philadelphia creative network is behind the Super Bowl commercial that’s already going viral, 10 days before the game even airs.

The commercial, for Dannon’s Oikos Greek yogurt, will air during the fourth quarter of the game, and reunites the guys from beloved 1990s sitcom “Full House”: Bob Saget, John Stamos and Dave Coulier.

The ad was produced for Dannon by Vinizius/Y&R, but the concept originated in Philly with local company Poptent.

“At Poptent, our network of independent filmmakers is actually creating all of the video and films you see,” explained Liz MacDonald, Poptent’s Director of Client Services, who was the point person on the Dannon project.

Poptent, which moved into a new Walnut Street office in Center City earlier this month, is unique to the advertising world in that they crowdsource ads from a group of independent filmmakers who work with the company.

“It’s unlike anything else out there,” MacDonald said. “These guys aren’t held hostage by anything out there. They can just ideate all night long and come up with anything. They don’t have to work within any confines at all.”

MacDonald declined to name which members of their team came up with the idea for the spot at this time.

But the ad, which has already attracted national headlines, is a big success for Poptent, which previously worked on a 2012 Super Bowl commercial for Dannon, the first-ever Super Bowl commercial for a yogurt.

“I can’t even put it in words. This is what we’ve been working for,” MacDonald said of the attention the spot is drawing before even airing. “This is why we have developed the product that we have, to enable this kind of really great stuff to be created in an innovative and interesting way, something that has a really great story behind it.”

The former stars of “Full House,” which was the crown jewel of ABC’s long-running ‘TGIF’ Friday night lineup, can be seen in a teaser for the Super Bowl ad (see below).

In the teaser, the actors who once portrayed Danny Tanner (Saget), his brother-in-law Jesse (Stamos) and his best friend Joey (Coulier), enjoy a cup of Oikos yogurt before musing that they should probably get separate homes, in what seems like a look in on the lives of the “Full House”characters 20 years later.
