The fire broke out about 2 p.m. Wednesday at the home on 84th Street near 163rd Avenue in Howard Beach, authorities said.

There was an explosion inside the home, an FDNY official said.

Witnesses told The Daily News that the home’s resident, 49-year-old Theresa Pepitone, ran out of the house with her skin peeled back and her face and hair burned from the fire. Her dog, who was also inside the home, was treated for minor injuries.

Authorities were trying to determine the cause of the fire. Homes on the block had recently undergone repairs for damage caused by Hurricane Sandy, but it is not yet clear if the explosion was related to the storm, the News reported.
