Police are trying to solve the mystery of how singer Gavin DeGraw got a broken nose and concussion early Monday morning in the East Village.
The “I Don’t Want to Be” singer, 34, told police he was assaulted by three men sometime around 4 a.m. near Sixth Street and First Avenue after leaving a nearby bar.
Bloody, he reportedly stumbled 13 blocks uptown only to be hit by a taxi cab near 19th Street.
DeGraw, who lives in New York City, was treated and released for a “concussion, broken nose, black eyes, cuts and bruises,” according to his publicist.
An NYPD spokesman said three men assaulted him at 3 a.m. Monday.
A bystander reportedly called 911 after spotting DeGraw stumbling on the sidewalk.
Police do not have suspects or a motive for the assault. Sources told People magazine that DeGraw’s murky memory — he’d reportedly been drinking — clouded his recollection of events.
DeGraw owns nearby National Underground bar on East Houston Street, where People reported that he was seen Sunday.
An employee at Three of Cups on East Fifth Street and First Avenue also confirmed that he frequents that lounge.
DeGraw canceled shows scheduled for last night in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., and Friday in Wantagh, N.Y.
