Gay man suffers broken nose in West Village bias assault

Police are searching for a suspect who approached a gay couple inside a West Village subway station earlier this week, made a derogatory statement and then punched one of them in the face.

The 39-year-old victim suffered a broken nose and fractured orbital bone, police said.

The suspect approached the couple inside the West Fourth Street – Washington Square station at about 12:30 a.m on Sunday. He asked the men if they were gay, and the couple ignored him. The suspect then punched the victim in the face, causing him to fall to the ground.

Police released a sketch of the suspect, who is described as a white male between 25 and 30 years old, 5-foot-8 and 170 lbs.
