Gilgo Beach murders: Top cop remains on force, say police

Reports of Suffolk County Police Commissioner Richard Dormer leaving his post after bungling the Long Island serial killer investigation are untrue, according to a Suffolk County Police spokesperson.

“Richard Dormer is not leaving the Suffolk County Police Department,” said a Suffolk County spokesperson. “It’s not true and we are not releasing a statement about it.”

The New York Post reported that Dormer bungled the case by publicly releasing crucial details that should have remained private. His boss, Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy was unhappy with his performance, reported the Post, and reportedly gave Dormer a month to clear out his desk.

The Post reported that Dormer even called Dowling College in Oakdale, LI, to inquire about a security position there.

Untrue, said Levy, who denied the allegations in the Post article, and said “Richard Dormer is the best police commissioner Suffolk County has ever had.”
