The Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corporation launched a new neighborhoods initiative today that intends to highlight amenities in 14 burgeoning neighborhoods within Center City's wingspan.
Mayor Michael Nutter said in an email that the city's goal is to encourage "visitors and residents alike to look at what all of Philadelphia has to offer, beginning with these 14 vibrant neighborhoods surrounding Center City.”
The initiative aims to introduce several options for visitors and natives to eat, drink, socialize and play, that otherwise would be unknown.
The 14 were chosen based on proximity to Center City and for arts and entertainment scenes.
The GPTMC launched a website, visitphilly.com/neighborhoods, that serves as a clearing house of all the best spots in the selected 14 neighborhoods.
Meryl Levitz, CEO of GPTMC, said the city needs more explorers.
"We want visitors to go one more block," she said.
