Hailo, an app that allows riders to hail a taxi from their smartphones, has unveiled a new feature that enables riders to pay fares without using cash or swiping a credit card.

The app is integrated with the taxi’s payment processing system, operated by two companies, VeriFone and CMT. Users will be prompted to store their credit card information and set a tip percentage. Once their ride is over, the payment will be made automatically and Hailo will email a receipt.

“Opening the door to e-hail apps gave riders a new way to enjoy taxi travel,” said TLC Commissioner David Yassky in a statement. “And this innovation adds yet another layer of convenience for passengers.”

The Court of Appeals lifted a temporary restraining order on the city’s e-hail program in June, allowing riders to freely hail yellow cabs using smartphone apps.
