Hate crime charge in attack on Sikh Columbia professor

A man has been arrested and charged with a hate crime after he allegedly pulled the beard of a Sikh Columbia University professor as part of a small mob that called the professor "Osama" before attacking him last fall, police said.

Christian Morales, 20, has been charged with aggravated harassment for his role in the assault on Prabhjot Singh, whose jaw was broken in the attacklast September.

Singh, who wears a turban and keeps a beard as part of his Sikh faith, told police he heard a voice call him a “terrorist” and “Osama.”
