Home invasion in Eastport investigated

Suffolk County Police Seventh Squad detectives continue to investigate a Friday morning home invasion during which a couple was terrorized.

An Eastport man was exiting his home Friday at about 9 a.m. when two men, one armed with a handgun, forced him back into his home. The perps tied up the homeowner and his wife with duct tape and electrical ties and demanded cash. The men then stole cash and jewelry.

Thinking on his feet, the male homeowner convinced the suspects he could get more money if he was able to go to a bank. The suspects allowed him to leave, and while at Chase bank in Center Moriches employees became suspicious and called authorities.

Seventh Precinct patrol officers responded to the bank and located the male victim. Officers then responded to the home, where the female victim was found unharmed in a disabled Volvo station wagon on the couple’s property — but the robbers had fled. One police theory suggests the man might have been followed to the bank by one of the burglars.

Detectives are asking anyone with information about the incident to call the Seventh Squad at 631-852-8735, or anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. All calls will
remain confidential.
