Steve Corbett said his life changed dramatically when he learned he had HIV in 2005, and he ultimately sought help from the AIDS Action Committee of Massachusetts with housing assistance, clothing and counseling.
Corbett, 51, said it was a turning point in his life, and he remains positive and doesn’t agonize over having HIV. He also volunteers answering phones for the agency’s hot line. But Corbett admits it’s been difficult at times coming to grips with others treating him differently when they discover he’s HIV positive.
“It’s not the physical challenge. I’m healthy as a horse. But it’s the emotional challenge and stigma,” he said.
