How much damage did the tornado that tore through New York last week cause? And how much will the city see in federal disaster dollars?

Officials from the Federal Emergency Management Agency are expected to tour the storm’s path of destruction through Staten Island, Brooklyn and Queens, discerning whether the damage and response costs reach the roughly $25 million threshold to qualify for federal help.

Elected officials held a town hall last night to answer questions about cleanup efforts in Forest Hills, Queens, which along with Middle Village, were hit hardest with 125 mph winds striking around 5:40 p.m. last Thursday.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg said the cleanup could take weeks. It was the worst damage from a storm since 1985’s Hurricane Gloria, he noted.
