Police are investigating an assault on an interracial couple in Long Island City early Saturday morning as a possible hate crime.

Billie and Jacob James-Vogel say they were leaving a restaurant on Centre Boulevard at about 1:30 a.m. with their gay friend when they were attacked by three men who shouted racial and homophobic slurs at them, NY1 reported.

Jacob told NY1 that he was repeatedly hit in the face and pushed to the ground. Billie said she was also thrown to the ground, broke her toe and banged her head, all while the attackers shouted the “N-word” and “F-word.”

Police have arrested Nikolaos Katsos, 28, and charged him with assault and harassment. They are still searching for the other assailants, according to NY1.
