The son of Red Sox broadcaster Jerry Remy said he didn’t stab his girlfriend to death and that the accusation was “ridiculous.”
Jared Remy, 35, of Woburn, spoke for the first time since his arrest to a Boston Herald reporter in a jailhouse interview Sunday night.
Remy is due in Middlesex Superior Court on Tuesday morning for his arraignment after a grand jury indicted him for murdering his 27-year-old girlfriend Jennifer Martel.
“No. That’s ridiculous,” Remy said when asked if he killed Martel. “How dumb would I have to be? I loved her, I still love her.”
Authorities said that Remy repeatedly stabbed Martel during an argument at an apartment in Waltham in August.
He pleaded not guilty during his district court arraignment shortly after his arrest and was indicted by a grand jury last month.
Remy also said that he has declined seeing his parents while in jail, but said that he did speak to his father over the phone.
“I’m sure they’re not thrilled with me right now,” he said.
