Vice President Joe Biden is scheduled to make an announcement this morning at Philadelphia's 30th Street station, reportedly on infrastructure investment along the Northeast Corridor's railway lines.
The Pennsylvania native son and former U.S. senator from Delaware will be joined by City Councilman Kenyatta Johnson at the event, scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
President Barack Obama's early promises in office included references to government-funded high speed train line projects that would create jobs and boost city economies by making them more accessible to one another.
A federal high speed train line project has been proposed on the West Coast.
However, it is unclear what definitive project or promises Biden will announce at today's press conference.
U.S. Secretary of Transportation Anthony Foxx is also scheduled to attend the press conference.
Johnson released a statement saying that he hopes the vice president's announcement in support of infrastructure investment will have some effect on the conditions of bridges in Philadelphia, which led to the recent two-car derailment of a train carrying oil over the Schuylkill River.
"It’s important that we not only invest in new infrastructure to move us forward, but also invest in the upkeep needed to keep our existing infrastructure safe and sound," Johnson said in his statement.
