A Lancaster police officer shot and killed a homeless man who reportedly lunged at him with a knife on Monday.
The officer-involved shooting happened about 7:15 a.m. on North Queen Street, LancasterOnline.com reports. The 35-year-old man died at Lancaster General Hospital about three hours later.
The Lancaster County district attorney reviewed surveillance video that captured the shooting and told reporters the officer's use of deadly force was "entirely justified."
Police fired a total of three shots at the 35-year-old man after he produced a 9-inch knife, according to the report. The officer who killed the man fired his weapon twice after he and two fellow officers had cornered the man in an alcove near a jewelry store.
Authorities indicated one of the officers used a Taser gun on the man, but the barb did not stop him and did not appear to have any effect on him.
