A level 3 sex offender was arrested around 3 a.m. Wednesday morning after he allegedly tried to buy sex from an undercover Transit Police officer at South Station’s bus terminal.

Transit Police said Calvin Hardy, 38, of Dorchester, approached the female officer and asked her to “perform a sex act in exchange for money,” though they did not offer further details.

Level 3 sex offenders are considered to be at a high risk to reoffend and may pose a high degree of dangerousness to the public, according to police.

Harvey was convicted of open and gross lewdness and lascivious behavior in May 2005 and again in February 2008.

Harvey was placed into custody for solicitation of sex for a fee, and was expected to be arraigned yesterday at Boston Municipal Court.
