One of the most iconic works of American art is now as large as life on the ground floor of the Flatiron building.
The Whitney Museum of American Art has created a pop-up installation inspired by “Nighthawks,” the celebrated 1942 painting by Edward Hopper, in an effort to promote its current exhibition, Hopper Drawing. The exhibition includes more than 2,500 examples of the artist’s work.
The installation includes a two-dimensional cutout of several people sitting at a diner and is best viewed after dark, when reality mimics the late, lonely hour Hopper famously captured on canvas.
The exhibition runs through Oct. 6.
