After 16 years on the run, James “Whitey” Bulger is back in South Boston – but now he’s in a federal court facing charges for various crimes including racketeering and 19 murders.
The trial of the alleged mob boss is underway and Metro reporter Michael Naughton is inside the courthouse providing real time updates of the proceedings. We’ll be here during the course of the trial, which will include testimony from former hitmen and Bulger associates John Martorano, Stephen “The Rifleman” Flemmi and Kevin Weeks. Bulger himself has promised to testify, according to his lawyer.
Bulger’s defense seems to center around poking holes in the credibility of the government witnesses and his claim of immunity, which authorities said does not exist.
