Lobstermen feeling pinched by proposal

Long Island lobstermen believe a proposal by the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission to increase the minimum catch size of a lobster and reduce lobster catches could wipe out the remains of a once booming industry.

SUFFOLK COUNTY – Long Island lobstermen believe a proposal by the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission to increase the minimum catch size of a lobster and reduce lobster catches could wipe out the remains of a once booming industry.

The ASMC believes there are not enough young lobsters to ensure a sustainable population.

Yet Long Island fishermen say the proposals are based on bogus science and that young lobsters are plentiful in Long Island Sound.
