A Suffolk County, Long Island man probably won’t receive a “thank-you” note for attending a wedding this Labor Day weekend after he allegedly attempted to steal money from the happy couple.
Omar Santiago, a guest at Larry and Joanna Williamson’s wedding, attempted to steal a box of gift money meant for the newlyweds, according to the Suffolk County Police Department.
A maitre d’ spotted Santiago in the act and alerted the bride, police said. Santiago ran into the bathroom where he stuffed the money-laden envelopes into his clothes and fled the reception hall. Guests were able to catch Santiago and held him until police arrived. Santiago faces grand larceny charges.
