Lt. takes heat for missing evidence

A Boston police lieutenant is taking blame for a foul-up at a Dorchester home this month where drugs and other evidence disappeared as police worked on a search warrant to get inside.

Police are conducting an Internal Affairs investigation to determine what led to the improperly secured scene, police spokeswoman Elaine Driscoll said.

Officers pursued two robbery suspects to a home on Woodford Street early Sept. 2 and arrested them. Inside the home they found drugs and other paraphernalia.

Officers assigned to guard the home while detectives worked on a search warrant apparently waited in their cruiser. The evidence was later discovered missing.

Driscoll would not yet identify the officers involved, but said they all remain on active duty.
