An elderly Brockton man was beaten to death with a hammer Tuesday night, according to police.
Authorities arrived at a Clinton Street home about 8:45 p.m. Tuesday. Witnesses told police they heard a crash and a commotion, followed by a verbal argument. At the scene, officers found 74-year-old Lee Harmon bleeding from what appeared to be massive head wounds and a large gash on his right lower arm, Plymouth County Assistant District Attorney Bridget Norton Middleton told the Brockton Enterprise.
Hammon was pronounced dead at 9 p.m.
One neighbor says the victim was homeless and was often seen in the neighborhood on a bicycle looking for redeemable cans and bottles. WCVB is reporting that according to Hammon's family, he was an ordained minister.
No arrests have yet been made in the case. Hammon's death is the city's eighth murder so far in 2013.
