The District Attorney’s Office has formally charged 20-year-old Naim Woodley for allegedly striking a Philadelphia police officer with his car last night, dragging the officer for three blocks.
Woodley was arraigned this morning and bail was set at $250,000.
He is charged with aggravated assault, possession of an instrument of crime, reckless endangerment and resisting arrest. Woodley is next due in court for a status hearing on April 17.
Repeat offender
It’s not the suspect’s first run-in with the law – Woodley has amassed an impressive rap sheet in the two years since he turned 18, according to court documents.
In fact, Woodley was already due in court this Wednesday for a status hearing stemming from an arrest less than a month ago during which he was charged with driving under the influence and criminal mischief.
He was also supposed to be in court two weeks ago to face trial for an unrelated incident. Prosecutors claim Woodley last year conspired with two other people to beat and rob a Logan man.
Woodley was arrested in connection with that crime on March 9, 2012 after investigators saw his car, which they said fit the description of the getaway vehicle used in the robbery.
He was charged with aggravated assault, theft, receiving stolen property, reckless endangerment, robbery and conspiracy.
That trial is now scheduled to begin April 9 – it was continued because due to a court error, Woodley and his lawyer were subpoenaed to appear in the wrong courtroom on the wrong date, documents state.
Woodley was last June convicted of marijuana possession, but found not guilty of additional charges of possession with the intent to deliver and conspiracy.
