A Bronx man has been charged with murder as a hate crime after he fatally stabbed a 69-year-old man in Queens on Monday.

Steven Torres, 22, was charged with second-degree murder as a hate crime and criminal possession of a weapon.

Police say Torres stabbed Ever Orozco near 90th Street and Roosevelt Avenue in Elmhurst about 1 p.m. The victim was taken to Elmhurst General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

NBC 4 New York reported that Torres allegedly attacked the man because he believed he was gay.
