A man was crushed to death by a forklift in Queens Thursday morning, police reported.
Police and fire officials said the 911 call came in around 11 a.m. and they arrived on the scene to find a man pinned beneath a collapsed forklift in front of RAW Equipment Building Materials Corp., a building supply store.
The victim has been identified as Omar Barahona, 61. Police said he is not a RAW employee, but they believe he worked next door for another business that sometimes does work for RAW.
Police believe he was trying to repair the forklift when it collapsed and crushed him. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The NYPD is continuing to conduct an investigation into the incident, police said.
An employee at the nearby Sparky's Deli said things have been chaotic on the block all morning, since a gas pump broke down at the nearby Police Academy and the whole street was shut down.
The employee had noticed the forklift being used with a crane to lift steel beams to higher floors in the building before, from what he saw, a piece of the crane broke off and fell down.
