The NYPD is investigating the death of a man while being placed under arrest by transit police on Tuesday.

The incident occurred about 2:30 p.m., when officers saw a 25-year-old man who appeared to be illegally selling MetroCard swipes at the 161 Street B/D station.

Police said when the officers approached the man, he ran. They caught up with him and while they were arrested him, he “became unconscious and unresponsive.”

Emergency medical personnel took him to Lincoln Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival, police said.

The medical examiner will determine the cause of death. The man’s identity will not be released until his family has been notified.
