A man was found dead in Tompkins Square Park in the East Village Saturday morning, police said.
Officers found a white male believed to be in his thirties in a field within the park around 8:20 a.m.
Emergency medical personnel pronounced the man, who has not yet been identified, dead at the scene.
A tipster told Gothamist that he found the dead body and that people believed the man had been there all night. The individual also told the blog that medical personnel pronounced him dead after seeing signs of early rigor mortis, indicating he had died during the night.
The Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death.
Police said the investigation is ongoing.
