A Dorchester man was arrested Saturday morning after he allegedly harassed a woman aboard a Route 22 MBTA bus and smashed a driver's head into a glass window.
Joel Casanova, 34, is accused of first harassing the female passenger as the bus traveled along Blue Hill Avenue before shouting profanities and threats at the bus driver, without provocation.
Shortly thereafter Casanova rose from his seat and charged toward the bus operator while the bus was in motion, Transit Police said.
The driver, fearing for his safety as well as that of the passengers, stopped the bus.
Upon reaching the bus driver, who was still seated, Casanova allegedly forcefully pushed the operator's head into the driver's side window. Casanova then fled the bus.
Officers caught up to Casanova, who appeared to be intoxicated and stated that he wanted to "punch the operator in the mouth."
When police said that would not be possible, Casanova reportedly asked if he could punch the officer in the mouth instead.
Casanova is due in Dorchester District Court on Tuesday on charges of interfering with public transportation and assault and battery on a public employee.
