Man struck, killed by MBTA commuter rail in Norwood

A trespasser on the railroad was struck and killed by an outbound Franklin Line commuter rail between the Islington and Norwood stations at about 9:50 a.m., said MBTA spokesman Joe Pesaturo.

“[The] incident did not occur near a station [or] a crossing,” Pesaturo said.

The man was described as middle-aged, he added.

Transit police are investigating the incident.

Service on the Franklin commuter rail line was disrupted due to the accident, according to officials.

Today’s was the second commuter rail-related death in two weeks.

Another man was struck and killed by an MBTA commuter rail near the Lynn Station around 6 a.m. on Aug. 20. MBTA officials also described that victim as a trespasser.
